After Effects Tutorial Part 1

Since I've never really used After Effects before I knew that I had to get my stuff together and find some good useful tutorials to get to know how to use the program. And since I already had an idea of what kind of thing I want to do I knew I'll have to pick it up fast and learn to use more than just the basics of it.
Cause this time I didn't want to have a really complicated awesome idea and not be able to pull it off because I didn't know the software, so I immediately found lots of tutorials, made a list of them and started working on those.
The first one I found is an exploding planet tutorial.
I took screen shots along the way to show the process.
I started off with a simple 2D texture.

I used the CC Sphere on the 2D texture. To sort of wrap it and stretch it, into a sphere.
At this point I played around with the light.

The more and more I played with it, I realized it's so much like photoshop, so all the layer styles and editing options I knew how to use because I sort of know my way around photoshop. So the more I realized how similar those two are I started believing that I can really accomplish what i want to accomplish with this man vs nature idea I have.

So here it's just the usual, bump map for the planet, make it look less dull and awful D:

I must say I looooove this glow effect, it's probably one of my favourite effects. It brings the whole thing to life!

I needed to play around with the backlighting the planet to give this nice effect, on the video itself it glows and changes colour slightly as the planet turns so it looks a bit more realistic, and I love it c:

So this is what I ended this tutorial on, the next step is actually exploding this planet, but I shall get on with that laters : D Overall I've learned that, After Effects is pretty much the clone of Photoshop which I am really grateful for : D means that it won't be so complicated to master it! :') I hope.
